What tattoo removal actually looks like
Laser tattoo removal works by breaking the ink into tiny particles your body clears naturally over time. You don’t see the result overnight — the tattoo fades gradually across a series of sessions, and by the end most skin looks close to how it did before the ink.
The hardest part for most people isn’t the process — it’s picturing the outcome. That’s what AfterInk is for: we’re building a quick visual preview so you can actually see the “after” before you commit to anything.
Common questions
What does a tattoo look like after removal?
Once fully removed, most skin returns close to normal — sometimes with slight lightening or texture change depending on your skin, the ink, and aftercare. Fading happens gradually across several sessions as your body clears the broken-down ink.
How many sessions does tattoo removal take?
Usually 6–12 sessions spaced 4–8 weeks apart. It depends on the tattoo's size, age, colors, ink depth, and your skin — a professional consult gives you a real estimate.
Does laser tattoo removal hurt?
There's some discomfort — most people compare it to a rubber-band snap. Sessions are quick, and clinics take steps to keep you comfortable.
Does tattoo removal leave scars?
With modern lasers and good aftercare, scarring is uncommon. The laser targets the ink and leaves the surrounding skin largely intact.
